You know how in bloodborne there's lanterns instead of bonfires? Those are spring chicken winter lanterns. Or late summer-fall lanterns.
Messengers and their lamp, looking for hunters to embrace.
You find them, lullaby grab attack things, in areas that used to have a lot of hunters coming through but are now in a decay cycle. The gods beckoned to the frontier and the hamlet were no more; the hunters, beckoned in turn, were not.
The same pattern, the same fallen greatness, the same blood drunk and increasingly thirsty monsters.
Infected with the spawn of half a dozen gods we can know the beasts by knowing the gods. From hunter to wolfman to wolf. From wolf to silverbeast to darkbeast. Messenger to doll to lantern.
Mergo, the god of insight, sedation and frenzy, the all-seeing all-knowing Eye.
And that, beloved, is why the Eye rune appears in the intro cutscene; mergo found himself a hunter, and why the insight shop messengers are never happy to see you; you need those eyes if you ever want to grow up to be a big healthy mergo-ling like Willem or Adeline.
The milkweed rune is a group of messengers next to a lantern. The lantern is a creature.. I think it comes from flora. The giant stick insect things? The double-butthole discarded skin octopuses? These are failed lumenwood. Or lumenwood that failed to snag a suitable hunter. Lumenwood feed phantasms. Phantasms guide us to discoveries. Discovery is overseen ahem by the Eye.
Long story short: mergo flora and kos are having a 3-way
